Haakon Industries in headquartered in Richmond, BC Canada and currently has 3 manufacturing facilities; one in Kingston, ON, Canada and one in Cheney, WA, USA and our newest facility in Candler, NC, USA just outside of Asheville which opened in September of 2021.
We are looking for production engineering interns for the summer of 2024 to be a part of the team with the purpose of gaining exposure and hands on experience in manufacturing, engineering, and contributing other areas of the company. This will be a full-time position during the summer with the opportunity for continued full-time employment consideration after graduation.
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical and manufacturing aptitude and problem solving skills, along with well developed interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Working as a Production Engineering Intern it is important that you are capable of effectively managing changing priorities, are self-motivated and thrive in an extremely fast paced environment. You must understand lean manufacturing principals, have a high level of mechanical aptitude, be a strong proponent of continuous change and enjoy spending time on the production floor. The chosen candidate will be tasked with implementing a very well defined project(s) working with the current production engineering staff, supervisors, purchasing, EHS, and interacting with team members on the floor. This is a very "hands on" engineering exposure position.
Minimum Technical Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Engineering, prefer Manufacturing or Mechanical.
- Strong communication and mechanical reasoning skills.
Preferred Experience Qualifications:
- Prefer previous internship experience, but not required.
- Prefer previous experience in a manufacturing environment, but not required.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Developing and designing concepts geared toward production improvements that are defined within the project scope
-Working with production engineers to develop solutions within the defined project scope
-Becoming familiar with production processes that are related to the defined project scope (may include welding, process optimization and product flow, assembly tools, inventory management and/or organization, assembly sequencing, tool optimization, testing preparation and packaging methods)
-Reporting out at the end of the internship on your project successes/failures, what you learned, and your overall experience
