NEW YORK, JUNE 28, 2009––Every year, towards the end of June, thousands of political activists, singers, musicians, and sparkling drag performers march four miles down Fifth Avenue. Rainbow flags and floats blasting electronic dance music usually accompany them, as over one million people from around the world look on.
On any given weekday, the Empire State Building lobby is bustling, tenants rushing to their offices, and tourists pushing their way to the Observatory on the 86th floor. On a Saturday morning, however, it is a ghost-town.
