The History:
Mars Hill High School opened in 1938, constructed out of local stone by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration (WPA). The school served high school students until 1974, and middle and elementary students until 2001.
After that, the “rock school” stood mostly vacant and was primarily used for storage. There was even talk about tearing the building down – but our family-owned business had a vision for how this beautiful historic site could serve a new role in the lively Mars Hill community.
Our Story:
We purchased the building in 2019, and spent the last two years transforming the vacant school building into apartments you can truly call home. We took care with every detail of Cornerstone on Bailey, outfitting the building to ensure your home is comfortable, customizable, and convenient. You’ll experience all the charm and character of a historic property, with the amenities and style of a modern apartment home.
