HOLLAND, MI - Congressman having a lot on their plate is an understatement.  

Congressman Pete Hoekstra brings a rare set of talents to represent Michigan's Second Congressional District. 

He is one of the few people in congress that has been a Fortune 500 business executive. Pete worked for fifteen years as the Vice President of Marketing for Herman Miller Inc., an office furniture manufacturer.  

Hoekstra has a lot on his plate. His is involved with over ten different task force groups and caucuses. Some of which include: the House Republican Task Force on Historically Black College and Universities, the Congressional Prayer Caucus, and the Immigration Reform Caucus. He is also the chairman of the Congressional Caucus on the Netherlands.  

The Congressman has been influential in many different things that have happened in Congress over the years. He was an instrumental part of developing Contract with America, a contract that contained the ideas the Republicans promised to the people if they became the majority in the House of Representatives. The Contract proved to be sufficient because in 1994 the House became a Republican majority.  

Hoekstra is a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor where he is trying to put the control of educational policies back into the hands of educators and administrators. He also holds the position of Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where he leads oversight of issues regarding U.S. Intelligence. 

His substantial work in Congress has not gone without notice. Hoekstra has been the recipient of numerous awards for his strenuous labor. He has received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise" award multiple times, alongside the "Politician of the Year" from the Habitat for Humanity of Michigan organization. Hoekstra has also received awards from Americans for Tax Reform, Family Research Council and the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste.  

Hoekstra has also been featured on numerous media outlets over his career as Michigan's Congress Representative. He has been on "Meet the Press" with George Stephanopoulos, "Fox News Sunday" with Chris Wallace, NBC's "Dateline," Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," and multiple other programs.  

However, the Congressman is not limited to the television medium. Hoekstra has also written numerous articles that have been published in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Times, The Detroit Free Press, and also, but not limited to, The Detroit News. 

Hoekstra was born in Groningen, Netherlands and immigrated to Michigan when he was only three years old. His high school career was attended at Holland Christian High School. He attended and graduated from Hope College with a bachelor's degree in political science. For his master's degree he attended and graduated from the University of Michigan; obtaining his master's in business administration.

He was sworn into Congress for the first time in 1993, becoming a member of the 103rd Congress. 

Hoekstra has compiled an impressive array of awards, publications, and features on renowned television programming. But he has done so being firstly committed to God.
